**Artist Statement: Jenn DeMonte**

"I am a ceramic artist with a background in photojournalism.

My sculptural work focuses primarily on forced global migration while highlighting the perseverance of women, especially mothers. Being a daughter of immigrants and a mother to children adopted internationally and through foster care, my clay narratives delve deep into themes of identity and belonging. Empathy, cultivated through personal family history and years of volunteering within refugee communities, helps me work with and respectfully respond to my subjects. My goals are to raise awareness and honor immigrant women.

This exhibit is dedicated to dear friends, extraordinary mothers. A percentage of sales will be donated locally to the Portland Refugee Support Group and internationally to Doctors Without Borders.
